Doga’s Wisdom

The other day, my friend Doga sent me a few thoughts that I thought were interesting enough to share with you.

From time to time when I reflect for a long time on myself, and on life in relation to the individual, I fall into certain patterns that make me say random things like:
Life is the art of taking advantage.
Life is an opportunity to boost our morale.
Sometimes I think that painters, musicians, sculptors and poets don’t know the art of life, but rather the disclpline of life.
Another thing I think is that people who take drugs have never known heroism, because heroism is a drug in itself.
Escapism means we will always be victims of suffering.
I know what I’m saying is weak, but you asked me to share my thoughts from time to time.

Here is a short poem Doga wrote last summer, describing himself.

This is the mysterious well with an invisible depth
that asks for water. When you give it,
it doesn’t fill up—as if it had sand in its bottom,
by which it defies the seas and the oceans.

One reason is that he can’t read English at all. He enjoys participating here, but I have to translate for him what’s going on.

I’ve suggested he set up a blog of his own, but that hasn’t been a priority for him so far. He says he doesn’t have time, and also his economic situation means he isn’t always able to get online.

I wish he would jump in the water here, but I think the language barrier is the biggest obstacle.
