| I have a sense that the struggle of consciousness to advance, to master its material and psychological framework, should be considered the true purpose of existence. While I do not "believe in God" as a higher entity that regulates everything else, I do believe in a compassionate universe that nurtures consciousness. Consciousness is a necessary part of existence. It is what gives existence its meaning. Evolution is no accident, it is what the universe is for. In the end we will come to perceive ourselves as part of a self-aware universe, a pool of consciousness we might as well call God. There is no "hereafter," no Judgment Day, just what we see around us. But to see it only in material terms is insufficient. It can also be seen as a manifestation of consciousness. Thus it becomes not a prison, but a realm of infinite potential. I believe this is the message of all religious philosophy, unless it is corrupted by those who mistake dogma for truth. |
