law of nature
Shambling, slovenly, he came into the cafe. No one noticed him: he'd been famous in another lifetime, but not now. He was a stringy-haired youth who trailed after him the perpetual smell of cheap tobacco: his clothes and hair were steeped in it. He wore archaic boots that laced all the way up his calves. His clothes were more or less in tatters; his jacket was too large and one arm was about to come loose. He hadn't bothered to sew up the seam. "I'll wear it this way until it falls off. Things come apart sooner or later, it's a law of nature."
