predatory mentality One thing I'm having trouble with here is the social consequences of the money gap. Who has money and who doesn't is the single most important factor in people's lives, and it is behind the scenes of every transaction large or small. The rich exploit the poor by keeping them down, so they will provide cheap labor when needed. The poor exploit the rich, including tourists, however they can through various schemes and hassles. With both sides practicing a predatory mentality, there is little room for loyalty outside one's clan or posse. The rich have their secret gardens, but for the poor, flights of fancy are desperate and short-lived.
