presentation is everything
Her boss asked her to do him a favor. "Would you run over to Cleveland and get me a copy of that building they have there, that big factory?"
"Sure," she replied. "Would you like it copied brick by brick, or would a quick scan of its contours be enough?"
"Well, it's the atmosphere of Cleveland that I'm homesick for, that I really want. Whatever method you feel is best. I have total faith in you," he said, patting her little fanny as he affectionately called it.
Sarah, the protagonist of this tale, went off to Cleveland. She called for a car to meet her in front of the Corporate Offices and whisk her to the airport for the 3:40 flight. She looked very smart in her matching skirt and blazer, her hair arranged in a loose wave that matched the contours of her face. As she stepped into the Plaza with its terraced fountains, every head turned. The mailroom clerks, the Research people, the Data Center hackers all whispered to each other, "There goes Sarah Bilbury, our rising star."
The car pulled up just as she reached the curb. She stepped in gracefully, showing a smooth, athletic calf from which some of the weaker spirits had to turn away. "The airport, please," she said in a tone of command, as she settled back into the plush. "I have half an hour."
As the long white limo whisked her through burned-out streets lined with the shells of stripped cars, she gazed through darkened windows softly humming her favorite tune, "Presentation is Everything."
