| I asked Boumedian how uprisings traditionally happen in the Arab world. He replied that there are three levels of resistance. Those with strength and courage will intervene to stop an injustice with force. Those who lack strength will cry out, and those who are afraid to cry out will circulate their resentment in the crowd. The three forms can work together, as when someone's cries summon a crowd, and their murmurs of resentment grow to the point that someone among them finds the courage to act. Those who are too old and feeble even for resentment will say quietly in their hearts, "This is not right." |
