The Buick sedan pulled up to 456 West Garden Lane with a reassuring crunch of gravel under the tires. The two kids hopped out, ponytails flying, with a screech and a giggle. Dad shifted into Park and cut the engine. Mr. Iverson was next door in his red tartan bermudas, pushing a hand mower through the overgrown grass. They waved to each other as Dad moved up the walk. The two twins had already climbed onto the porch, and they were trying to reach the bell. Mom came along behind in her blue checked dress, carrying a basket of goodies from home.
