I was the center of attention at age three, everybody's darling. I was going to go far! I was a miniature philosopher! My words were admonitions and prophecies. My eyes were sacred vessels, my tears the sacrifice that set people free. They made me cry a lot because each tear soothed their wounds for a moment, bought them time. But my message to them was this: we are in Hell, and we are burning; we must recognize our pain and let it torture us into becoming better people. This will be the Crucifixion of Humanity. We will each enjoy a private agony until delight in our bodies is bled from us, and we are reborn as spiritual beings. When we wake, we will find that we've crossed the River to the Other Side.
